Guru's blogs

This Harvard Business Review article, "American Idol, Open Source, and the Million-Dollar Idea Inside You" was interesting and free (and you don't get much free from HBR), but I really liked the links to the blogs of various industry guru's, such as Seth Godin, keynote speaker at SLA 2008 in Seattle.

Conference wrap-up

I stayed an extra day in Denver to explore the city and unwind from the conference. Now I'm trying to write some of the blog posts that I didn't get a chance to write during the conference.

The Rocky Mountain Chapter did a phenomenal job welcoming us to Denver, and thanks to their tips I had a great day today. First I went to the zoo, then to Rockmount Ranch Wear, Zen Dog, and REI.

I've been blogging about my reactions to individual sessions over at DIY Librarian; the Personal Information Trainer and Global Librarianship are up already.

3rd Annual Bloggers' "Conference"

For the third time in three conferences, bloggers met informally at a restaurant near the convention center. There were some first-timers (to the conference and/or the meet-up), and some regulars (but only two from the very first one). It turns out that some of those who attended earlier either had scheduling conflicts or didn't even know that bloggers were meeting again.

New Categories for the SLA Blog

I've just added additional categories for blog posts so it'll be easier to find posts later.  Now there's one for first-timers, and others include:  conference tips, conference updates, CE courses, and keynotes/general sessions.

The View from the Information Booth

It's been a busy day at SLA Info Central.  Several first-time attendees stopped by to get their bearings (and their purple first-timer ribbons)...so much to do, so little time.  I hope we can all tap into that conference energy.

Don't forget to check your tote bag for the pocket-sized conference planner that has a mini version of the program.  It's a great quick reference for locations and a good place to mark your daily schedule.

Speaking of schedules, the division open house and reception details are posted at the Information Booth, as well as in your program.  Also, check the plasma screen daily for session and course cancellations and room changes.

A tram will be running each day between the 14th street convention center entrance and the registration area in Lobby D.  It's off-duty between 11 and 1 for battery recharging (trams need lunch, too).  I have to admit that riding in that little car is quite fun.

Until the INFO-EXPO opens at 11am on Sunday, an SLA marketplace will be set up in the registration area.  Pick up a hat, a t-shirt, or a copy of Al Gore's book.

I got to meet a few of the many bloggers yesterday and today.  Hi to Jill Hurst-Wahl, Kathleen Rainwater, and Von Totanes!  If you want to blog for SLA, and you haven't registered yet, get in touch with John Adams in the Blogging/Press Office (Room 604 in the Convention Center).  If you're already registered and you need a blogger ribbon, stop by that office or by the Information Booth.  And, don't forget about the blogger get-together on Tuesday at 1:30pm at the Rialto Cafe.  Leave a comment on the post with the details to RSVP.  Thanks for Jill for organizing!

That's all for now.  Stop by the Info Booth to say hello!

Bloggers get together in Denver!

This is from the IT Division Blogging Section blog.  This event is open to any blogger who will be at the conference.  Come and meet your fellow bloggers!

For the last couple of years, the bloggers have gathered socially at the SLA conference.  It is a time to put blog names with faces (and real names).  If you are a blogger (personal or professional), please mark your calendar and join us at this dutch-treat event!

WHEN:  Tuesday, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. (This is partially during non-compete time.)
WHERE:  Rialto Cafe,  www.rialtocafe.com
934 16th Street. (South side of the 16th Street Mall at Curtis Street)
CUISINE & MENU: American, also Asian flavor.  Lunch items around $10.  See menu at http://www.rialtocafe.com/lunch.htm
DIRECTIONS:  Walk to the 16th Street mall then walk two blocks west between Champa & Curtis Streets, located in the Marriott Courtyard Hotel.

Since I should reserve an appropriate space for us, please leave a comment here to let me know if you'll be coming.  Last year, we had 13 people at the gathering (photo).  I hope to see even more bloggers this year.

As of today (May 23), the following people have said they will be at the get together:

If you are planning on coming -- even for a short time -- please leave a comment here, so I can reserve/save a proper amount of space for us.  Thanks!

P.S. -- (10 a.m.)  People are wondering who can come to this.  If you blog, come!  It does not matter if your blog is public or private (e.g., company internal).

Addendum (May 30): Several more people have RSVP'd: Stephen L., Bill A., Amy C., Dominique and Tricia.  Keep in mind that the more the merrier!

Addendum (May 31): This is the last update before I head to Denver.  Von (Filipino Librarian) asked that I add URLs for people's blogs.  I'd added those I could get quickly.  Look for a post after the event with info on who attended and where their blogs are located.
