The difference between communication and connection struck me as well. Most of us are probably pretty good at using technology for communication, but few have mastered the art of digitally-based connections.

I use Clarizen's project management software, http://www.clarizen.com/ProjectManagementSoftware.aspx and I am part of a team from all over the world who work together on projects. Although we have not met face-to-face, I do feel connected to my co-workers. We have a facebook group where we keep in touch with each other's personal lives, celebrate birthdays (virtually) and share pictures. Communication about work is done through our project management software, personal communication goes through other channels. And I know that if I were to travel I would find friendly beds in many places.

I am administrator of search at Thomson Reuters, requires a a little bit different position in her article about performing person examining with customers in spread places.
