Question #5: SLA is an international organization. How can SLA involve and reach out more to members outside of North America?
Deb Hunt - Candidate, President-Elect
SLA needs to engage all members, but especially those outside of North America, where we have rapid growth in member numbers.
We need to celebrate the diversity of all members recognizing cultural identities, while embracing common professional ground. We are all passionate about the work we do and that is a strong and powerful connector among us.
Here are some ways that SLA can better meet the needs of these members:
- be more agile with social media tools to meet members and potential members wherever they are, both geographically and technologically
- offer more online CE offerings through ClickU that are reasonably priced and given two to three different times so everyone (no matter their location) can ask live questions during the presentation
- encourage all members to submit proposals for CE webinars so we get a cross-section of members from all over the world
- more aggressively market the virtual annual conference to members outside of North America to interest them in attending the conference online if they cannot attend in person
- encourage active participation at the division level where geography takes a back seat to subject matter or discipline
- stop referring to seasons in the Northern Hemisphere (e.g. Summer) and use months instead (e.g. July) to be inclusive of all our members
- use explicit dates (e.g. August 5, 2011 instead of 8/5/11 which could mean May 8, 2011 in some countries)

Much in line with the thinking of the people behind such a bill very happy to read your blog.

Now we have a great walkway that goes to the beach and to the canals that came from the partnership of community with government
