Courtesy of SLA's Philadelphia chapter, we've added a local service project to the program of the 2011 SLA Annual Conference & INFO-EXPO in Philadelphia. We hope that everyone attending conference will participate.
What? We’ll be partnering with the Philadelphia office of Dress For Success, an organization that accepts clothing donations to help unemployed women obtain jobs in a down economy. Donations will be tax-deductible, and forms will be available on-site.
When? We will accept donations starting the first day of SLA 2011, June 12th, until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15th.
Why? Of course, you can always support your local community through donations to charities of your choice. However, this is an opportunity for SLA members to come together as a professional community and make an impact through a shared social responsibility mission. June 12 will be our time to capitalize on our strength-in-numbers, and assist the unemployed in Philadelphia by giving them the crucial advantage of confidence when they interview for jobs.
How? It’s easy. Just bring an interview-appropriate piece of women’s clothing in your luggage when you pack for the conference. A good quality business suit that you no longer wear is the ‘Cadillac’ of donations. However, you don’t need to part with a suit to support the program. Bring a scarf, blouse, dress shoes, jewelry, unopened cosmetics – anything that can be used in an interview, as long as it is in good condition. Look for the Dress For Success sign at the conference when you arrive, and drop off your item(s). It’s that simple. With just a 20% participation rate, we could deliver over 1,000 items of clothing to Philadelphia.
You will find that Philadelphia is a wonderful city for lots of reasons. We hope to not only see you there for our conference, but that you will take part in this valuable service project to help the City of Brotherly Love.

And to think,I was just trying to decide where to take all these beautiful suits I no longer wear. How Thrilling!

Since I live (and work) in Philadelphia, it'll be easy for me to find something and bring it in! I may have a suit or two that I can part with...I'll have to try them on and see how they fit, or if they still fit (!); if I don't like the way they look, and can't see myself getting into them comfortably in the future, I'll donate them. I know I have a purse or two that I'm most unlikely to use and that are in very good condition, virtually unused (they turned out to be a little too small for my needs); I may have an unused lipstick or two and as for shoes, I'm quite sure I've got at least one pair I can't wear and that are in fine shape.

The thought of being made comfortable gives him strength to endure his pain.

This could be off-topic, but if you're anywhere in or near LA, there are a lot of fundraising events for the benefit of the less fortunate where you can participate in. Donate your clothes and shoes like what Greenopolis.com did and be rewarded for your actions. http://youtu.be/jk1mH9JvRr0
