Scott Brown - Candidate for Division Cabinet Chair-Elect - Question #1: Imagine you have just finished your term on the SLA Board of Directors, what did you accomplish?

Looking back on my term, I'm very pleased with the growing  level of connection among SLA Divisions. I have instituted new tools so that Divisions now have a variety of new ways to connect: via quarterly Division calls, via a Division Innovation wiki, and via joint Division events.

 

Not only are Divisions working together more, they are collaborating to sustainably fund their activities. Through discussions with Divisions, the SLA Board and SLA sponsors, we've created a model where SLA vendor sponsors are able to fund joint and multi-Division activities. Divisions are also have access to virtual meeting tools, connecting across subject areas and geographies.

 

Due to these activities, Division membership has grown significantly. The quality of Division offerings and networking continues to be a powerful draw for new members from other associations and professional organizations.

Scott - appreciate the focus! Certainly in academe discipline separation is going away and multidisciplinarity/interdisciplinarity is the name of the game (though there are still barriers to cross unit work).
I think we can balance multi-Division efforts in SLA without diluting the unique foci of each Division.
