1. Fostered more
collaboration and cooperation amongst members especially via Committees (hidden
jewels) as well as Divisions.
2. Increased the
visibility and impact of Committees.
Committees and
Visibility...For the past few years members have been asked to volunteer
themselves for SLA Committees via the web, which is working well. I will have worked to
continue this approach. I will have encouraged the promotion of this service
opportunity via unit discussion lists, blogs, etc. I will have worked with SLA
Leaders to increase discussion of relevant Committee issues with members.
Divisions...As we
have become a somewhat leaner professional organization, the wisdom of
collaboration and cooperation amongst
Divisions, particularly regarding conference programming, has become clear. The balance between Division identity and Division collaboration is tricky, but I will help lead this effort. Multidisciplinarity and collaboration are now key in academe and funding agencies – thus there are models for collaboration without dilution.
I look forward to further discussions here and at the New Orleans conference!
